A water heater is an essential element of a well-functioning home. However, water heaters, like all appliances, don’t last forever. So, the question is, how long will your water heater last?

In general, you should expect your home’s water heater to last for about ten years. But, as mentioned, this is only a general rule. Many factors can change this number. The amount of use the water heater gets is one of those factors. It stands to reason that the greater the volume of water needed to be heated, the greater the strain will be on the heater itself. Water can also have a corrosive effect on appliances, especially hard water, due to the mineral buildup. So, the negative effects of the water will be increased the more the water heater is used.

Another determining factor is the quality of the water heater. As is the case with most appliances, if they are good quality, they tend to last longer. If you want a water heater with a maximum lifespan, choose a high-quality water heater.

Finally, the location and installation of the water heater can also affect its lifespan. Avoid installing the heater in a place at high risk of flooding, which would cause rust and other damage. You should also install the water heater in an upright position and in a location easily accessible with good ventilation.
