As we spoke about in our last blog, biological pollutants are the cause of many unwanted problems inside the home. This time, we are going to consider whether biological pollutants are the reason for your health issues. Before we begin, it’s important to note that many of the symptoms experienced as a result of bio pollutants are very similar to those of other health problems, so you should go to your healthcare practitioner for an accurate diagnosis. However, it may be helpful to consider the following questions and your answer to them before you go.
- Are you suffering from headaches, tiredness, dry throat, fever, stuffy nose, or difficulty breathing? Do these symptoms tend to go away when you spend time outside?
- How long has it been since you cleaned or changed the filters on your humidifiers or a/c units?
- If you have recently moved to a new house, have your symptoms started since the move?
- Have you had any type of energy conservation work done lately, such as insulation, weather stripping, or new windows? If so, did your health issues start after the work was completed?
- Does your home experience high levels of humidity? Is water gathering on hard surfaces? Are you noticing any moldy or musty odors in the home?
If you are able to answer yes to some or all of these questions, there is a chance that your health problems are being caused by biological pollutants. As we emphasized in the beginning, though, it is important to discuss these questions with your doctor so that they can provide you with an accurate diagnosis.
