You never know when they’re going to happen and they’re always unpredictable. A blackout or a power outage is always without warning.  So how can we be prepared for these situations with minimal inconvenience?

You’re a few tips regarding what to do as soon as the power goes out:

  • Close all the windows and doors. Depending on the weather if your air-conditioning or heating system goes off make sure to close all the windows and doors. You don’t want precious cool air or heat to leak out. And make sure everyone in the house knows to keep them closed.
  • Make a plan. Then together as a family and make a plan of action. The plan should include what food will be eaten and when. Along with that make sure that small jobs are attended to. Who will feed the pets and who will venture out to the store if you need anything.
  • Perspective. View a black out or Power outage as a challenge rather than a nuisance. Think about how you can prepare ahead of time. What’s your plan? How are you going to cope? This could be a day of gloom or opportunity for your family to buy. It’s all in the perspective.
  • Ration out your cell phone usage. This is the time to make sure that the phones are charged and only use one mobile device at a time for priority like checking information and updates. Entertainment on the phone is not to be used at this time.
