A gym is a place we go to maintain a level of health and fitness. But even before Covid, there was a need to be vigilant about hygiene at the gym. After all, it is usually a warm, high-humidity environment that oftentimes does not have a lot of natural light – this is the perfect breeding ground for all kinds of bacteria. If you have decided that 2023 is the year that you go back to the gym, we thought you may benefit from a few health and safety reminders. Here are a few:
Perhaps the most obvious tip is to wash your hands before using gym equipment, as well as afterward. To prevent the further spread of bacteria, try to avoid touching your face while working out. It is also important to shower immediately after working out to remove bacteria from your skin.
While you are working out make sure you wear clean socks and shoes. Even while showering, it is a good idea to wear some type of footwear so that you avoid picking up any unwanted bacteria.
Be considerate of others by cleaning the equipment after you have used it. You may also want to become familiar with any extra hygiene rules that are in place. For extra safety, try to use exercise equipment that has just been cleaned.
Bring your own clean towel and use it to remove bacteria and sweat that may be found on gym equipment.
Do not share any of your personal items like headphones, towels, or water bottles with anyone else, as this can encourage the spread of germs.
Following these few simple tips will help you to maintain a good level of hygiene while working out and ensure that you have a pleasant and comfortable workout experience.
